Thanks to citizens for passing levy

I would like to say thank you to all of the voters who helped pass the Edmonds School District replacement levy last year. I know a lot of the people who voted “yes” don’t even have kids in school anymore, but are still concerned about children, education, and our property values.

Many people do not know that Olympia has come to school districts all across the state and said, in the middle of the year no less, “By the way, we really aren’t going to give you all of the money we said we were and that you budgeted for.” For school districts that have no levy, this is crippling. But the Edmonds School District is still able to limp along thanks to citizens who helped pass our replacement levy.

Money is still extremely tight in the Edmonds School District, and our leaders are having to make tough choices. (To see the effects alternate day kindergarten is having on children, please see my blog at teachingmybabytoread.blog.com) However, I believe that the Edmonds superintendent and school board have a great deal of personal integrity and are doing everything they can to economize and educate at the same time.
