Golly, many thanks to The Herald for not waiting til Arbor Day to remind your readers about the amazing qualities of trees.
Herald writer Julie Titone and Kate Lunceford, from the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County provided good fodder to ponder every day of the year.
One new point I was glad to learn: that developers must present plans that show a certain percentage of tree canopy 20 years after construction.
When many of us quickly drive down the street, do we note the beauty of trees, let alone the contribution they make? Do we ask our kids to look out the window and imagine how tall those trees are? Why are they useful?
Trees improve air quality, add shade to cool our environment, and provide habitats for species. They provide a soothing feeling of green; an aesthetic value to our neighborhoods. What an important balance they provide to combat our escalating heat.
I am thrilled that The Herald is forward-thinking, covering the importance of tree canopy in maintaining a beautiful, livable Snohomish County.
