The position statement by the Committee to Promote Public Spaces in Downtown Everett (Herald Forum, Nov. 23) is informative reading. The position statement represents some forward thinking, and if brought to fruition, will increase the economic diversity, employment and family-wage jobs within the city of Everett.
There are a number of variables involved when trying to redevelop an area and this committee realizes that in order to guarantee tomorrow’s benefits, steps must be taken today. The items in life that most people consider important are family, health and the economic ability to support all the peripheral activities as required, ensuring continued success of the people that are most important to every individual.
In order to accomplish these goals, a certain level of higher education, infrastructure and economic incentives for companies to locate in the general area are needed. Open spaces and natural environment are a very important part of the equation and any effort expended toward this goal will be well worth supporting.
