I would be interesting if reporting on the city and county parking discussion was explored beyond simply reporting the situation.
What alternatives exist? Careful consideration of the area-wide transportation system seems appropriate. Seems likely that some benefit to the whole community, consistent with today’s technology and environmental considerations would be appropriate.
Requiring excessive parking, and encouraging more traffic on our streets, goes contrary to constraining community development to alternatives which focus transportation solutions on mass transit (which would benefit all.)
Solutions to Everett’s downtown concerns could potentially be solved with off-site parking and use of mass transportation or community shuttle services.
I encourage our leaders to think outside the box rather than drawing lines in the sand, and playing ping-pong with the issues. And I encourage The Herald to foster such thinking, through thought-provoking reporting.
