ecently I watched a mother with two sons in the military handing out yellow ribbons to folks in the Aberdeen area in support of our troops. It seemed to me this was a terrific idea. I discussed the use of yellow ribbons to recognize our armed forces personnel to the board members at a meeting of the Everett Council of the Navy League of the United States and they all said, “Go for it!”
I would like to propose everyone tie a yellow ribbon on their car in support of our armed forces. This is not in any way an endorsement of conflict. This is to let our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, nieces, nephews and even some grandchildren know that we are supporting them. Everett is an All-America City and I can’t think of any better place for this crusade to take root. It could become nationwide. We have Naval Station Everett right in our own backyard and how uplifting something like this would be to our military families and, of course, to all our servicemen and servicewomen.
I ask that everyone tie a yellow ribbon on their vehicle to show our resolve and commitment, as we did our flag after Sept 11. Let’s show the rest of the nation that we here in Everett know how to support our troops!
Immediate Past President
Everett Council,
Navy League of the United States
