Regarding the Dec. 7 Herald article, “Cold snap could bring power shortage: Only the beginning of major power shortages in the future”: This is only the first of many power shortage problems that are soon to occur. Due to ever increasing environmental regulations, the likelihood of new power sources being created in the near future is highly unlikely. With the rapidly increasing use of electric power by our computer wired society, the threat of power shortages are going to be more frequent and severe in the future.
If our governments continue to tighten environmental regulations at the request of liberal urban dwellers, these same people must alter their lifestyle to reflect the fact that they will not have access to unlimited supplies of power. The time to start the change is now, or we soon will have chronic shortages of all types of energy including electricity, fuel and natural gas. The power hungry lifestyle that we have created is not sustainable and needs to be drastically changed if we are to save the environment for future generations to enjoy.
