I read with interest that presidential hopeful John McCain, according to his 2007 tax return, not only collects his Senate salary but he has a Navy pension (which I believe he has earned) and he is collecting Social Security. To add insult to injury, his wife is valued at over $100 million. If the Social Security Administration has concerns about being able to fund the rest of the baby boomers who will be attempting to collect benefits they have paid for as wager earners in the next few years, then why are wealthy people like John McCain collecting Social Security? More insult to injury: As a senator, he will retire with his Senate pension, which is nearly the same or possibly more than what he collects now.
There is an incredible double standard in this country. I am acquainted with people who walk the very slim line between earning money to supplement their Social Security income and having it taken away because they are earning too much non-Social Security income.
These people are totally out of touch with the rest of us who are struggling to make ends meet — a struggle that gets more and more difficult as each year passes. Triple dipping should be disallowed. Why is John McCain allowed to collect Social Security? I hope someone is able to answer that for me.
