The rate of tipping in the U.S. has gone beyond reasonable.
It used to be 10 percent. Now with touch-screen tipping one is almost obliged to hit the 30 percent button while the waiter watches.
The eateries are shooting themselves in the foot as far as I’m concerned because I only eat out if it’s absolutely necessary (like being away from home). I (we) rarely treat ourselves to a night out at an emporium anymore because of this tipping protocol. Even a simple meal like breakfast can cost a couple over $60; one restaurant meal can cost you a week’s groceries.
It’s getting ridiculous.
