My husband and I moved from Everett to Alabama in 2000. We knew we would not get settled in time to register and vote in Alabama so we requested absentee ballots. When we registered in Alabama we were told that they would notify Washington state to remove us from their list. It did not happen and we received all the candidates’ brochures, pamphlets and absentee ballots in 2001. I thought maybe it might just take awhile for the system to get us off the Snohomish County voter list.
After receiving our absentee ballots in 2002 and 2003, I called the auditor’s office to get our names off the mailing list. The candidates’ mailings stopped, but the voter absentee ballots arrived again in 2004. After the fiasco of the elections in Washington state in the 2004 elections, the public is supposed to believe the officials are taking care of the abuses exposed? No way! Our absentee ballots arrived again, right on time, for the 2005 elections! If we were dishonest citizens, we could have been voting in Washington and Alabama in each election for the last five years. And now Snohomish County is going to all-mail voting! Good luck.
I prefer to show up at the polling place in person and show ID to prove who I am and that I am qualified to vote.
