I would like to voice my concerns about students who have to take the WASL every year. We spend all year reviewing things we already know about to prepare for the test and don’t learn anything new. The hype of the big test creates extra stress for us teens, and detracts from our knowledge gain.
Also, to have 1st and 2nd graders take the WASL is unfair to the child and the parent because it can cause the child to dislike learning at an early age. Someone can be brilliant in English but terrible at math and not graduate from high school in four years because of it. Overall, I believe the WASL is a waste of time, money and knowledge for the kids in the state of Washington.
