I am writing to state my opposition to a “quiet zone” in Mukilteo.
Whenever we travel – we know we are home when we lay in bed and listen to the train in the distance. Train horns are comforting, and a part of the charm and history of America. Quieting the train horns will take away from what little history we have left.
Think about little kids who perk up and wave when they hear a train, older citizens who have memories – everyone has a train story. Not to mention the reason we added more horns: Look at the statistics and the deaths of people on the tracks. We need the horn noise, especially with more population moving in. As a Mukilteo native, I am getting a little annoyed by people who move here, buy big homes and then complain about the noise.
If you share these thoughts – please let the city council and mayor know now before another part of our history is gone.
