Regarding the letter, “Calling GOP racist is wrong”: I am sorry the gentleman was insulted by the cartoon and columnist insinuating the GOP is made up of racists. I find my intelligence insulted by the GOP’s candidate Donald Trump. If I were a Republican I would not tell anyone.
Rather than express more of my feelings about the Republican frontrunner, I would like to correct some of the misinformation by the letter writer. In the years 1961-1967, Congress was controlled by the Democrats, the 89th Congress actually had a super majority. These were the years when civil rights were advanced and LBJ played a large part in its moving forward. I could not find any information naming a Republican president as being first to enforce integration. It seems that was an ongoing battle.
