The writer of a recent letter to the editor stated that Trump “gave up billions of dollars and works night and day.” First of all, tweeting conspiracy theories all night and playing golf or watching Fox ‘News’ during the day does not constitute working day and night. Secondly, to have given up billions of dollars, he would have to be worth billions of dollars and given all that money away. Since Trump has refused to make public his tax returns, we don’t know if either condition existed.
The letter writer then blamed the Democrats for shutting down the economy. The president and the Senate are controlled by Republicans, and therefore largely control the economy. A state-by-state decision was made by governors regarding shutting down businesses; 26 states have Republican governors. The United States response to the virus was no different than most countries in the world based on advice from scientists and health departments. I guess the world’s pandemic response was nothing more than a global plan, aided by Republicans to stop his re-election?
