Regarding the July 2 article concerning two struggling churches combining into one church (“New United Methodist church forms from two smaller ones“):
There is a battle raging in most churches today involving the manner of worship service the congregations desire. The warring parties consist mainly along the lines drawn by the generation gap. It’s kneel and pray vs. swing and sway, organ vs. drums and guitars, suits and ties vs. cut off jeans and baseball caps. Neither party is totally wrong or totally right but when you try to combine the two you have a struggling church.
The churches that try to lure a congregation through entertainment are in big trouble because society is bombarded by the pros that deal in ways to have fun. It’s sad that some churches have somehow lost their belief that you should be in the world but not of it.
