Earlier in the week I submitted our vote for our favorite comic in The Herald (“Pooch Cafe”) and sent a separate email telling you my husband’s and my top 10 favorites.
We got to talking about your poll to decide which current strip to delete and realized that we both dislike the new strip “Phoebe and her Unicorn.” First, we are in our 70s and I am a life-long fan of the mythical unicorn. The personality of the one in the new strip is too vain for my liking. It does not capture the gentle nature attributed to unicorns in classic literature. Also, my favorite cartoons have always been those with well-drawn illustrations. Both my husband and I find the drawings of the unicorn in the strip unattractive. Her pointed muzzle and receding chin are not horselike as her body is. And when her mane is showing in profile views, it is curled up toward her chin, making it appear she has an overlarge, open mouth.
We vote for keeping the current roster and dropping “Phoebe and Her Unicorn.”
