Regarding the recent commentary by a law professor regarding the Supreme Court case considering Colorado removing Donald Trump from the ballot (“Ballot debate presents a tangle of concerns for the court,” The Herald, Jan. 13): Half the people in this country think Trump is guilty of insurrection, and that’s their right.
The problem is the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution says you can’t be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. Trump has not been tried and convicted in a court of law. Thus, he is innocent until convicted in a court of law. Since this has not happened to this day, the U.S. Supreme Court must overturn the Colorado ruling and allow Trump to be on the ballot.
