While raising our two daughters in the ’90s, I insisted they accompany me to our local polling place. I wanted them to see neighbors and citizens going through the voting process. They came along knowing a candy sucker would be their thank-you for my voting.
Years later, Washington proposed, and passed all mail-in voting. What a disappointment this was to me. Centuries-old democracy stuffed into an envelope and sent where? I expressed my sentiments to my teenage daughters.
Now a common standard to many states, mail-in ballots are here to stay. Many states are struggling with voting vs. virus. I now agree with this covenient, safe method and expect more states to follow. If somehow they could put a couple suckers in the ballot for us (No pun intended)!
