We need to rethink what is important

Thank you to Kerry and Zach Marl for speaking out against holiday excess and its impact on future generations. (Sunday letter, “Massive displays are not required.”) I don’t want to pick on the author of the article, “Everett’s Riverside Neighborhood embraces holiday spirit,” I am sure her intentions were good. However, I feel we need to rethink what is meaningful and important, given our global situation. We are close, if not past, the tipping point, and giant plastic snow globes and miles of Christmas lights are contributing to the problem.

By the way, I too live in a “scrappy, blue-collar neighborhood.” I am a single mom with a 16-year-old daughter who is college-bound and I would much rather pay for her tuition than an immaculate house.
