I’m no longer a smoker (10 years) but am appalled that the cigarette tax has had another dollar added and sales tax has also gone up again — at the voters “OK” of course. However, the long overdue pay increase for teachers — granted overwhelming by taxpayers — apparently will be rescinded willy nilly by our trusted governor and the Legislature.
The tax increase was in effect because the taxpayers had already vested it in before the recession. Well, so was the pay raise for our educators! Before the recession. Where is the justice here? How can we expect to educate our children about the dangers of smoking if we can’t pay our educators a living salary? And we, the people, chose to give them one!
Let’s just raise taxes again to fill all the potholes in the roads that the high high gas tax is already supposed to cover. Makes as much sense.
