An April 20 letter to the editor expressed the opinion that, “If non-NRA members would stop shooting people, gun assaults would decrease by 100 percent.” Wow! Pretty astonishing claim, and I don’t really know how one might go about checking it.
However, just on the surface, it seems unlikely. Unlikely to be true, and unlikely to be a statistic that could even be compiled. Now, if you wish to make the claim that fewer NRA members commit gun crimes than non-NRA members, well OK. Possibly true, though I still don’t know where the info would come from, but then I’m one of the uninformed wackos that think perhaps universal background checks, and age limitations might just be a good thing.
