Recently I’ve heard radio commercials building up lawyers as helpful and saviors of the downtrodden. But, with each positive anecdote comes dozens of sleazy examples of why people hold them in such low esteem.
On the front page of the June 25 Herald are the faces of two of them grinning on how they managed to get a child’s mother over $100,000 of taxpayer money because she allowed her child to play in an unfinished playground when he was 11 years old. (“County loses injury suit,” news article, June 25)
This will teach that young man that whatever happens, sue, sue sue! There are hundreds of lawyers out there willing to take on whomever for a piece of the pie. Fortunately, this time, lawyer fees were not forthcoming and they were left out in the cold. Too bad.
Failure to take responsibility for one’s actions is the hallmark of parenting these days. No matter what failure you encounter, there is always someone to sue. Just make sure you vote to increase your taxes this fall. This one action might have taken away one full-time deputy from Sheriff Bart’s payroll. Would that be worth it?
