We have all seen the BMX riding masked gentlemen roaming our neighborhoods. Some wear bandanas, some wear hockey masks. I asked our patrol officer if this is legal and/or is there any repercussion. Perfectly legal, he says.
The Herald runs a regular column called Fugitive Watch; we citizens are to call police if we see one of the featured suspects.. But how are we supposed to identify anyone with their face covered. I imagine word getting around to all the criminals; if you’re on the run, go to Everett; just cover your face and go about your “business.”
I am calling on the Everett mayor and city council to immediately issue a warning that mask-wearing individuals will be a priority. Stop, frisk, identify, hassle and repeat. Let them know we will be watching. I’m getting tired of authorities constantly erring on the side of protecting the rights of the criminals instead of our rights to live free of fear and criminal activity.
If they then feel that they have been wronged, let them hire an attorney and pursue it at their own expense. If you have nothing to hide, you wont need a mask.
