As a resident of Everett, I took interest in the advertisement for the Everett Mayor’s State of the City address. Clicking on the ad I wondered why is the event sponsored by Mortenson Construction and Boeing? Does nobody in the mayor’s office realize the poor optics of such an arrangement?
Imagine the president’s State of the Union, brought to you by Exxon and Raytheon.
I was even more disappointed that in order to hear the mayor’s vision live at the Everett Mall, during work hours on a Thursday afternoon, I would have to purchase a $30 ticket!
It appears that the city is so cash-strapped, it cannot afford to provide a State of the City address without corporate sponsorship and a fee to the citizens of Everett.
If that is the case, then perhaps the city shouldn’t be spending $80 million on a ballpark.
