Australia provides Covid-19 tests that are readily available, quick and free to anyone. Tom Hanks has the virus and was fortunate to be in Australia where he was able to quickly find out if he has the illness.
Why is it that the United States government cannot manage this kind of performance? Could it be that the government does not want the real numbers to be known? A month ago South Korea was doing between 5,000 to 10,000 tests a day. We don’t know how many tests have been done in the U.S., but it is nowhere near that level of effort.
South Korea has about 52 million people, we have about 331 million people and are doing a small fraction of the testing being done in a country with less than 15 percent the size of our population. Why is that?
I think it is because our president believes that showing the real number will reflect badly on him. We must have extensive, easily accessible testing if public health officials are to be able to slow the spread of this virus. Australia is doing it correctly. We are not. We need to demand better performance from our government.
