Why is more expected of me on the job for no additional pay?

.

As a technical worker with decades of experience, I have noticed increasing trends in recent years among my employers:

I am being asked to perform additional tasks for which I was only modestly — if at all — trained;

I am not being given any extra time in my work day or extra pay for accomplishing these additional tasks;

These additional tasks may or may not be related to what I was hired for.

I feel so, uh, empowered, I guess.
