In case you haven’t noticed, the price of gas has climbed 15 to 20 cents per gallon in the last week. And rest assured, it is going to keep going up. And we all know the blame will go to our dependency on foreign oil, even though Saudi Arabia, the biggest supplier of oil in the world, said it could live with $35 per barrel oil for a long time.
A quick question for my Republican friends. Rep. John Boehner, the current Speaker of the House, made the comment a year or so ago that if we wanted $2 per gallon gas in the U.S. we needed to start drilling on American soil. This he said would drive down the price of oil. And now we are doing that.
My question to Mr. Boehner is this: Why did your rich friends start shutting down their drilling operations as soon as the price of oil dropped? Couldn’t be to push the price back up, could it? We don’t have to wait for Mr. Boehner to respond to know the answer. And besides, he is a member of Congress. Why would he bother telling the truth anyway?
