Regarding the Dec. 25 article, “Police: Gunman set ‘trap’ for firefighters”: I would like to know why William Spengler was released from jail even after 17 years? He should have received the death penalty for brutally hammering to death his grandmother, which would have sent a strong message to future killers; but, at the very least life in prison. Both would have prevented the tragic slaying of these firemen and Spengler’s sister.
