Why was there no Christmas greeting on Dec. 25?

As I read The Herald Sunday Christmas edition, I was greatly disappointed that Publisher Rudi Alcott decided that announcing that the Sunday edition would now cease was more important than headlining the news with a colorful Merry Christmas and a kindred article for the front page (“A letter from the publisher,” The Herald, Dec. 25).

Why not print articles covering faiths, the Christmas birth of centuries ago, and spreading good cheer and celebration? Our communities and our world need uplifting greetings, messages and articles, as many people are suffering in one way or another, not only during the Christmas season, but everyday. The Bethlehem article was informative, but also depressing. Interesting, it wasn’t an article written by a local journalist either. But then again, most of the Herald’s articles aren’t on a daily bases. The Herald should change their name to the Associated Press.

I thank Judd & Black for its annual full page Christmas message. I look for it every year. Maybe the Herald publishers will get on board and recognize the real needs of its communities, and not constantly print articles submitted by other agencies, but bring forth words of encouragement, hope and outreach. We all need that at Christmas and throughout the year. May peace and hope be brought forth in our New Year.
