Will any issue bring us together again?

Now that fuel is well over $4 a gallon and no one is protesting in the streets, I wonder if people will ever be able to come together on a cause to make a major difference or initiate radical change. I wonder if there’s any injustice important enough to enable our society to stand together and say enough is enough.

Our country was founded and built by the rebellion spirit. A spirit that died in the 70s and is a ghost of the past to many of our younger generation. Whether it’s telling us how to drive, what country to fight, what to do with our land or how much of our check we give away; now is the time our Founding Fathers must be eternally spinning in their graves.

Current politicians, coupled with a stellar institution of staged media, have done a wonderful job of polarizing society way past any line of common ground. While I read and watch the news, I don’t foresee any hope of major issues changing for the better, because business and politics are manipulated by and for the rich and powerful. What I do see is a bunch of sugar-coated, playing-it-safe editorials and broadcasts, because making money is far more important than telling the truth.

Never again will we have anyone like MLK, JFK or RFK appear in our society. These men were the last of the rebel generation, powerful enough to take on the establishment and able to pull together thousands of people at one time. No one with their level of integrity and spirit will reach the platform these men achieved and if it seems like someone is, they’re probably sleeping with the enemy.

We’re paying for our lack of action in more ways than we fully realize.
