I’m trying to figure out exactly how the City of Everett finances work with the taxpayers monthly financing? The city needs more money to run all of the various services but is looking at shedding some from its books.
From what I understand each of the proposals actually cost the taxpayers more. The library, the fire department and eventually Everett Transit are looking to be farmed out and off of the city’s books. Each of these services are going to actually cost the taxpayer more and the city then will actually lose these assets as well as control over how they are run.
First, they are looking to raise the property tax and potentially double the sales tax portion that funds transit. It seems to me that if these services are going to be costing the taxpayers more money that they should be retained by the city rather than shedding their voice in how they are utilized.
