I have been teaching in Marysville for 22 years. We have experienced a strike, a recession, a tragic school shooting, covid-19, and a variety of other challenges. Through everything, this community has supported their youths by passing levies.
This spring’s replacement levy bridges the gap between what the state funds and what our Marysville students need. The proposed levy is less than the expiring measure! I understand those of you that have disagreements with how Marysville School District has been managed, as I too haven’t always agreed with district decisions. But let’s not take our grievances out on our students.
I am deeply concerned and utterly terrified that if this levy fails, the effects will be devastating. Marysville will suffer as a whole; most importantly, our youths will suffer. Communities surrounding Marysville have passed their levies. Communities surrounding Marysville are providing opportunities for students to receive a quality education from highly skilled teachers.
Our children deserve nothing less! This levy must pass, or it will affect the job market, home values, and what I, as a teacher, am fighting for most, the quality of education we can provide. Funding quality education that promotes growth, is the best way to ensure a vibrant safe community. Vote yes for this school levy. Marysville, protect your future!
You have the power to control your own destiny.
A paraphrase of a speech by Martin Luther King Jr. is often quoted as: Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
