The end of the season is in sight, and picking a likely season champion in the bombers division of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series at Evergreen Speedway is too close to call.

Not that the super stocks or mini-stocks are blow-outs, but at least the leaders in those divisions have more than a one-race points cushion.

With four races remaining, just 13 points separate Lane Sundholm at No. 1 with 633 points from No. 5, where Travis Blackwood and James Mugge are tied with 620.

Mugge won his second straight race and Sundholm finished in fourth place in the bomber feature main last Saturday at the Monroe track. Dave Stewart and Steve Ptacek finished second and third, respectively.

Jim Foti and Darrel Lutovsky are tied in second in the points battle, three points behind Sundholm, and Jill Lang is eight points off the lead at No. 3.

The bombers wrap up the year with a season championship race on Sept. 8, and are also scheduled to run Aug. 18, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1.

Despite a seventh-place finish on Saturday, John Zaretzke continues to hold the lead in the super stock division with 342 points. Shane Harding’s second victory of the season on Saturday moved him past Roger Habich into the No. 2 spot, 48 points behind Zaretzke. No. 3 Habich finished the race in fifth place and is 52 points back. Darin Stordahl is third in points with 276 and Lex Johnson rounds out the top five with 266 points.

The super stocks have four races scheduled: Aug. 18, Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and the season championship on Sept. 15.

There are two races for the mini-stock division and the top three in points have separated themselves from the pack.

Chuck Richard finished Saturday’s feature main in second place and sits atop the division with 453 points. No. 2 Joe Hobbs finished third in the race and trails Richard by 30 points. Rookie of the year candidate Kris Harriss, who won his first feature main on Saturday, sits at No. 3, 41 points behind the leader.

The mini-stocks are scheduled for Sept. 1 and the season championship on Sept. 8.

Sports notes lead:Lemley, Chamberlain winners at Skagit: With just two point races left in the 2007 Skagit Speedway racing season, Brock Lemley widened the 410 sprints division points lead by winning Saturday’s main event. Lemley led flag-to-flag in the 25-lap race and now has 17 open-wheel wins this year. Mitch Olson was second, Barry Martinez third, Rick Ziehl fourth and Colton Heath rounded out the top five.

Sports notes:In the 360 sprints, Cory Chamberlain won his first main in 10 years of racing, leading the entire race. Steve Kilcup was second, Greg Sandquist third, Rod Perkins fourth and Robby Vaugh was fifth. In other races at the Alger track on Saturday, Kelleigh Johnson and Ben Gunderson won the sportsman sprints and outlaw hornet main events, respectively.
