Man, it’s early. Good thing I only need to type and not play football.
We’re a few minutes away from kickoff here at the Tacoma Dome. The unbeaten Archbishop Murphy Wildcats just jogged off the field. At the other end, the Lynden Lions are finishing up their warmup drills.
This is a Class 2A state semifinal clash. The winner advances to the championship game next weekend against either Prosser or Burlington-Edison.
This game is a rematch for Archbishop Murphy and Lynden. Murphy prevailed 26-15 in the season opener for both squads.
How will this one turn out? I expect it to be very close. The key will probably be how each teams responds to several unusual factors: Playing in the morning, dealing with the ever-echoing noise in the T-Dome, staying hydrated in a temperature-controlled venue after being used to playing in wet, frigid conditions.
…
They’re just about to do the coin toss. The captains for both teams are at the middle of the field. … Murphy won the toss and deferred possession to the second half. Lynden will receive the opening kickoff.
Here we go.
