Career: hitney grew up playing hockey in boys’ leagues before moving on to Northeastern University, where she won the prestigious Patty Kazmaier player of the year trophy in 2002. She later played for the Brampton Thunder of the National Women’s Hockey League.
Postscript: Whitney joined the University of Connecticut coaching staff before last season. The Huskies went 16-12-8 last season and advanced to the championship game of the Hockey East conference tournament.
