7-run sixth inning lifts M-P to 8-3 victory over Stanwood

MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck scored seven runs in the sixth inning en route to an 8-3 victory over Stanwood in a Wesco North matchup on Wednesday night at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Shane McKinley’s leadoff home run gave the Tomahawks a 1-0 first-inning lead.

Stanwood tied the score in the fourth inning; the Spartans scored their run on a squeeze bunt.

M-P scored seven two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sean Moser hit an RBI single to start the scoring parade.

McKinley capped the inning with a two-run double and finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI.

“He was big, started the game off with a home run and got us going,” Marysville-Pilchuck coach Josh Rosenbach said.

Tomahawks pitcher Brandon Kizer struck out the side in the second inning with the bases loaded and finished with seven strikeouts for the game.

“Kizer pitched a great game,” Rosenbach said.

Jordan Northrup was 2-for-4 with a double for the Spartans.

Edmonds-Woodway 2 Shorecrest 1 (8): At Edmonds, Tyler Cox’s RBI single scored Kramer Scott with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth as the Warriors edged the Scots in an extra-inning game. Scott, a junior right fielder also hit a home run to right field in the sixth to account for E-W’s other run.

Drew Lockhart and Kramer McDonald combined to hurl a three-hitter for the Warriors while Riley Reynolds allowed just seven hits in a complete game loss for Shorecrest.

Cascade 11, Everett 10: At Everett, in the top of the sixth inning Everett had the bases loaded but Cascade turned a triple play to keep the score tied 10-10. In the bottom of the inning Andrew Hanson (4-for-4) hit a tie-breaking home run to give the Bruins the Wesco North win. Teammate Tagen Struhs was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Steve Souza added three RBI. Jake Frauenholtz was 3-for-4 with two runs for the Seagulls.
