Beatty is a dependable guard who runs Lynnwood’s offense efficiently, Royals basketball coach Landon Porter said.
“He distributes the ball to all the right people at all the right places,” said Porter.
Porter also praised Beatty’s excellent free-throw shooting (85 percent last season).
State was great
During Beatty’s sophomore season (2005-2006), Lynnwood advanced to the Class 3A state tournament. It was the program’s first state-tourney appearance in 20 years.
“It was an amazing experience, especially for a school that hasn’t participated in many state events,” Beatty said.
He and the Royals would love to share a similar run this season.
Unstoppable
Asked to name the best prep players he’s ever guarded, Beatty named two guys from Jackson High: brothers Drew and Jamie Eisinger, winners of the past two Herald All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year awards. Drew graduated in 2006, Jamie this past spring.
It’s a relief the high-scoring brothers are gone, Beatty said: “Defensively it was really hard to contain those guys. I’d try my best and they’d still end up scoring like 19 points.”
Relaxing ritual
Beatty prepares for games by finding a quiet place in the locker room, listening to upbeat music and visualizing what he needs to do on the court. “It works,” he said. “I’ll just think about how the game’s going to roll and I’ll picture it in my head.”
TV time
Beatty’s favorite TV show is “Family Guy.” The funniest character is Stewie, the diabolical baby with a football-shaped head, said Beatty: “He’s the only one that has an English accent. He’s smarter than the whole family combined, and he’s only a baby.”
