PASCO — The Everett AquaSox bullpen blew saves in the ninth and 11th innings in a 5-4 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils on Wednesday at Gesa Stadium.
Austin Shenton laced a go-ahead, two-run single to center field in the top of the eighth inning as the AquaSox rallied late to take a 3-1 lead.
Cody Grosse walked to lead off the eighth, followed by a base hit from Kaden Polcovich. Patrick Frick followed with a walk to load the bases before Shenton’s hit drove home Grosse and Polcovich. Carter Bins singled to re-load the bases and two batters later Cade Marlowe drew a bases-loaded walk to give the AquaSox the two-run advantage.
But Everett reliever Tim Elliott allowed two runs, both with two outs, in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Dust Devils tied the game to force extra innings.
After a scoreless tenth inning, the AquaSox pushed a run across in the top of the 11th. Shenton started the inning at second base, advanced to third on a Bins groundout and scored on a base hit by Jack Larsen to give Everett a 4-3 lead.
The Dust Devils responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on two hits, an error, a fielder’s choice and a walk.
Matt Brash started on the mound for Everett (25-17) and allowed no runs on only one hit in four innings.
Davis Daniel allowed no runs on just two hits and struck out seven over seven innings and Kyle Kasser drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th for Tri-City (15-28).
