AquaSox edge Hops in series opener

Everett scores twice in the fifth inning to take the lead and hangs on for a 5-4 win on the road.

HILLSBORO — Axel Sanchez hit an RBI double to tie the game in the fifth inning and later scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Ben Ramirez and the Everett AquaSox held on for a 5-4 win over the Hillsboro Hops in the first of a six-game series at Ron Tonkin Field.

Victor Labrada went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Alberto Rodriguez finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, and Hogan Windish went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace the AquaSox’s offense.

Reid VanScoter started on the mound for Everett (32-32) and allowed four runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings. Logan Rinehart struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Jesus Valdez hit a three-run homer in the game for Hillsboro (24-40).
