EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox utilized their elite defense to reach the top of the Northwest League North Division standings.
On Thursday it failed them.
The Frogs committed three errors that led to seven unearned runs and fell 8-4 to the visiting Vancouver Canadians before 1,983 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for Everett (12-9).
A pair of Everett errors led to seven unearned runs in the top of the second inning for Vancouver. Jesus Severino hit a grand slam to left field and Griffin Conine had a two-out, two-run double in the inning for a 7-0 lead.
Everett got three back in the bottom of the inning as Troy Dixon had a two-run double to right-center and later scored on an error to make it 7-3.
The Frogs added another in the sixth when Ryne Ogren singled in Matt Sanders to make it 7-4.
Vancouver got the run back in the seventh when Tanner Kirwer doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.
That was how it ended.
Everett starter Ivan Fortunato (2-1) was the hard-luck loser as he struck out five and scattered six hits while allowing all seven unearned runs in four innings of work. Penn Murfee gave up one run in 2 2/3 and Jamal Wade threw the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings for Everett.
Dixon finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Sanders scored twice.
The teams conclude their three-game series with the rubber match at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
