VANCOUVER, B.C. — A team pitching performance for the ages ended in a tough-luck loss for the Everett AquaSox on Tuesday night.
AquaSox pitchers took a no-hitter into the bottom of the 12th inning, but two base hits, including a walk-off, two-run single from Michael Turconi, off reliever Leon Hunter Jr. gave the Vancouver Canadians a thrilling 2-1 win.
Five AquaSox pitchers combined to throw 11 no-hit innings as a pitchers’ duel ensued thoughout the contest.
Raul Alcantara allowed no hits over six innings to start the game, Jimmy Kingsbury and Peyton Alford followed with a hitless inning each, and Jarod Bayless chalked up two no-hit innings as the scoreless battle got through 10 innings. Hunter Jr. threw a hitless 11th before suffering the loss.
Hogan Windish hit an RBI single to give Everett (48-43, 14-11 second half) a short-lived lead in the top of the 12th before the Canadians walked it off.
Five Vancouver (56-34, 18-7) pitchers combined to allow just four hits in the game, including Abdiel Mendoza who struck out eight over five innings.
