EVERETT — Brian Sloan’s tenure with the Everett AquaSox spanned 19 years and four different ownership groups. But his time with the Sox has come to an end.
Sloan, who’s been an integral part of Everett’s front office since the 1996 Northwest League season, has stepped down from his position as vice president of corporate partnersips to become the director or business development for Alexander Global Promotions in Bellevue.
Sloan joined the Sox from the Erie SeaWolves of the New York-Penn League, being brought in as director of client services by then owners Bob and Margaret Bavasi to assist the Sox with the launch of the refurbished Everett Memorial Stadium. During his years in Everett he saw his title change to director of corporate partnerships, general manager and his most recent title.
Among the ways Sloan stamped himself on the Sox over the years includes the creation of the Pop Fly mascot, the development of the Good Karma Mondays promotion, and bringing in “Harold the Pig” to deliver baseballs to the umpires during two seasons in the late 1990s. He was also a leading voice in the Northwest League’s switch to a split season and the expansion of the playoffs.
“When the offer was presented to me by Alexander it was a tough decision, but one I felt very comfortable in making,” Sloan said.
“In 19 years in Everett I felt like I accomplished a lot representing companies in Snohomish County, as well as providing a great place for people to bring their families for entertainment,” Sloan added. “I felt very proud of what we were able to do, and this is kind of like going out on top.”
Sloan will still be working with the Sox, but on the other side of the ledger. Alexander Global Promotions manufactures promotional giveaway items for sports teams, such as bobblehead dolls, and the AquaSox are one of the company’s clients. He is also cutting his commute from home to work considerably.
“I want to thank everyone,” Sloan said. “All the front office staff with the AquaSox, the season ticket holders, the corporate partners, you need everyone to make it work. I developed a lot of friendships and a lifetime of memories. I look forward to coming back to the ballpark as a fan.”
