EDMONDS – Shiloh Keo rushed for 124 yards and Craig Duncan scored two touchdowns to lead the Class 1A defending state champion Archbishop Murphy Wildcats to a 41-14 victory over Lakeside Saturday in a non-conference game at Edmonds Stadium.

The Wildcats (0-0 league, 2-0 overall), now competing in Class 2A, scored three touchdowns in the first half to take a 20-0 halftime lead.

Kyle Wilkins scored from eight yards out in the first quarter followed by a 57-yard run by Keo and a 1-yard run by Stan Smith.

Aside from the strong offensive performance, Archbishop Murphy assistant coach Roger Brodniak was just as pleased with the Wildcats’ ability to hold on to the ball.

“We had no turnovers, and that was great,” Brodniak said. “We haven’t had any turnovers this season but it is important to hold on to the ball. It’s the thing that wins and loses games.”

The Wildcats finished with 353 yards and held Lakeside (0-0, 1-1) to 256.

“They (Lakeside) actually really moved the ball on us,” Brodniak said. “They executed their plays well. It was a very competitive game and that is a good thing. It is good for us to play in games like this because it shows us what we have to work on and get better at.”

Wilkins and Alex Ungs led Archbishop Murphy with 41/2 tackles apiece.

Lakeside’s Tim Schwartz caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Drew Garfield in the third quarter and Peter Overman scored from 7 yards out in the fourth quarter.
