Archbishop Murphy’s new girls soccer coach: Shannon Murray

After having enormous success coaching the Glacier Peak High School boys soccer team, Shannon Murray has added a new gig: head coach of the Archbishop Murphy girls soccer squad.

Murray’s hiring at Archbishop Murphy was announced Friday in a press release. He replaces Eddie Fernandez, who resigned as the Wildcats’ boys and girls soccer coach.

Murray coached the Glacier Peak boys team to the Class 3A state championship last year, and he guided the Grizzlies to third place this year.

Here is Archbishop Murphy’s press release about Murray:

Archbishop Murphy High School is pleased to announce that Shannon Murray has accepted the position of Head Girls’ Soccer Coach for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Coach Murray brings extensive school experience to the girls’ program and currently serves as the head boys’ soccer coach at Glacier Peak High School. Coach Murray guided the Grizzlies to the State 3A Championship in 2010 – his first season at Glacier Peak – and followed up with a second place finish this previous 2011 season. Shannon was named the “3A State Coach of the Year” in 2010. He previously coached varsity boys’ soccer at Kamiak High School from 1997-2000 and currently coaches youth soccer teams in Snohomish.

Shannon is a 1993 graduate of the University of Washington, where he played as a three starter. He enjoyed a five year professional career in the APSL with Colorado Foxes, Seattle Sounders A League, Portland Pride, and Seattle SeaDogs.

Coach Murray lives in Everett with his wife Mary and two daughters, Anna and Jaynie.
