If you want to see the Washington-Arizona game on TV, you’re in luck, but you’re going to have to drive a little to do it.
The UW announced a few minutes ago that the game will be shown live and unedited at Hec Edmundson Pavilion, and admission will be free. Concessions will also be available. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and kickoff is at 7.
The game can’t be shown locally because of a conflict with other Pac-10 games being aired. The Pac-10’s television contract prevents games from being broadcast that would interfere with other conference games being shown at the same time. But there is a provision that allows schools to broadcast their team’s games provided it is only shown on campus.
“Our football program has so much momentum right now and the community has really embraced the team’s success,” said Todd Turner, UW’s director of athletics, in a press release. “We want to thank our fans and provide them with this very unusual opportunity to follow the Huskies. This is especially true for our students who have just returned to campus for fall classes. The participation by the UW Office of Student Life along with our broadcast partners makes this possible. It is truly a Husky team effort.”
The feed will be the one shown on the Arizona Stadium big screen but the audio will be from the Husky Radio Network. Big screens will be placed in Hec Ed to show the game.
It’s a smart move by Washington to take advantage of the momentum that the team is generating. It will be interesting to hear how many people attend. My guess is that it will be well attended, possibly even a packed house.
