At a glance: Seahawks open preseason vs. Chargers

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

5 p.m. Sunday, StubHub Center, Carson, California

TV: Channel 13 Radio: 710-AM, 97.3-FM

The series: This is the 14th preseason meeting between former AFC West rivals. Seattle leads the exhibition series 9-4. The last preseason meeting was the Seahawks’ 16-15 win in San Diego on Aug. 29, 2015.

SEATTLE’S KEYS

Seeing what this O-line has: So far in training camp it’s had a new lineup almost every day. Expect George Fant to start at left tackle, new Seahawk Luke Joeckel at left guard, Justin Britt at center, offseason acquisition Oday Aboushi at right guard and Germain Ifedi at right tackle. Mark Glowinski at right guard and Rees Odhiambo at left guard are likely to also play with the starting offense. Long way to go to settle this lineup.

Welcome back 29: Earl Thomas will be starting back at his free-safety spot for the first time since Dec. 4, when he broke his leg crashing into teammate Kam Chancellor in pursuit of a pass. That night Thomas thought about retirement. No one was thinking the three-time All-Pro would be back starting the first preseason game eight months later.

Hype vs. reality: Is Shaquill Griffin as good in an NFL game as he’s been in practices at right cornerback? Does fellow rookie Chris Carson run as decisively when real opponents are trying to wallop and tackle him as he does against teammates in no-tackling practices? Those are two of the bigger curiosities for Seattle.
