Athletes of the Week — May 14-19

LEVI MAVORHIS

Baseball | Archbishop Murphy

The Wildcats starting pitcher gave up just two hits and struck out nine batters in a complete-game shutout victory as Archbishop Murphy beat Interlake in a 2A state first-round game to advance to the quarterfinals, where it would beat Burlington-Edison to punch its ticket to Selah and the state semis.

LEXIE LEVIN

Softball | Everett

The Seagulls senior knocked in the game-winning run with a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning as Everett beat Sedr0-Woolley 14-13 to win the 3A District 1 championship. Earlier in the week, Levin pitched nine innings and drove in four runs in a pair of wins over Glacier Peak and Shorecrest to advance to the title game.

SARAH TUEMMLER

Girls tennis | Marysville Pilchuck

The MP senior came back to beat Eastlake’s Katie Park 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in a Wesco-Kingco crossover match to become the first Tomahawks girls tennis player to go to state in 28 years. After losing to Kamiak’s Sally Park in the 4A district singles semis, the MP senior returned the next day to beat Edmonds-Woodway’s Myint-Zu Kyaw to take third place and earn the crossover challenge.

JOSH BARTLEY

Boys soccer | Archbishop Murphy

The Wildcats midfielder scored the game’s only goal in a 2A state quarterfinal win over Bellingham and also had a key throw-in in a first-round win over Mark Morris as Murphy advanced to the semifinals.

LAUREN GAY

Girls golf | Jackson

The Timberwolves golfer started the second round three strokes behind the leaders, but shot an 86, including a 42 over the final nine holes, on the final day of the 4A district tournament to win the championship.

ANTHONY ALLEN

Boys golf | Arlington

The Eagles golfer shot a 144 over two round of the 4A district tournament to beat out Jackson’s Kyle Cornett by one stroke and take the individual title.

BLAKE MCPHERSON

Boys track | Arlington

The Eagles track athlete set a personal record in the javelin, throwing it 204 feet, 10 inches, own the 110-meter hurdles and led the Arlington 1,600 relay team to a school-record time of 3 minutes, 23.73 seconds as the Eagles won the boys title at the 4A bi-district championships.

MP 400 RELAY TEAM

Girls track | Marysville Pilchuck

A year after dropping the baton in the prelims at the bi-district championships, the Tomahawks 4oo relay team — Bri King, Mackenzie Nolte, Summer Cull and Charlee Pilon — won the event convincingly at this year’s meet, earning a spot at state. On a side note, they did it without one of the fastest runners on the team, Amanda Klep.
