SNOHOMISH – Do not be alarmed by the enticing aroma of curly fries wafting cross the Snohomish River valley over the next four days.
More than 4,000 youth soccer players – and a larger number of equally hungry parents and other fans – are expected to descend upon Stocker Field in Snohomish today for the 30th annual Bigfoot tournament.
“We figure 12,000 people will come through over the four days,” tournament coordinator Kim Thunder said. “”For anyone who wants to watch a lot of great soccer this is the place to come.”
A record 268 teams – boys and girls in age groups under-11 through U-19 – will participate in pool play through Saturday. Semifinals and division championships are scheduled for Sunday.
The event, which includes a dance on Friday night, is put on by the Snohomish Youth Soccer Club.
Teams pay $375 to participate in the event. Otherwise, admission is free. Parking is available for $5 per day or $15 for all four days. Tournament officials have urged fans to park only in designated areas or risk being ticketed.
There are about 500 parking spaces available at the Stocker Field lot and ample overflow parking across Old Snohomish-Monroe Road, west of the soccer complex.
