BLOG: Some off-day musings with the Silvertips north of the border

The Silvertips play their annual two-game set at Prince George Friday and Saturday.

It’s their second-longest road trip of the season by distance. In advance of the series the Prince George Citizen has an interesting piece. It focuses on Pavel Azhgirei, the 17-year-old forward from Belarus the Tips took during the import draft and waived last week. He was picked up by Prince George.

I haven’t blogged since Saturday so I’m embedding our latest ThunderTips Hockey Podcast that dropped Tuesday night. Andy Eide and I take a look at both the Silvertips and Thunderbirds. We also address a few other things like the Canada-Russia Series and the rumors of a potential WHL outdoor game at Safeco Field.

In other news:

– Over at Sportsnet Sam Consentino has his weekly CHL “Top 10” list. This week’s list? The top 10 goalie performances this season. There’s an Everett Silvertip performance and it might not be the one you think.

– Then there is Carter Hart doing Carter Hart things. His shutout over Team Russia in the annual Canada-Russia Series had fans and pundits fawning:

– By now you’re no doubt aware that Kailer Yamamoto has been returned to the Spokane Chiefs after an extended stay – certainly longer than the proverbial ‘cup of coffee’ – with the Edmonton Oilers. His return makes the U.S. Division that much tougher particularly after the Chiefs added Zach Fischer from Medicine Hat via trade during Yamamoto’s absence. The Spokesman-Review caught up with Yamamoto after he returned.

– Kennewick voters on Tuesday voted against a tax increase that would pay for improvements to the Toyota Center, the arena in which the Tri-City Americans play their home games. That potentially muddies the future.
