Boys lacrosse: Meadowdale 19, Shorecrest 18

SHORELINE — Damon Johnson hit the game winner just 1:10 into the overtime period as Meadowdale rallied to a 19-18 boys high school lacrosse victory over Shorecrest on Friday at Shorecrest High School in Shoreline.

Johhnson’s goal came after Gavin Hardwick grabbed a rebound with 1:15 to go in regulation and ripped it past Highlander goaltender Finn Tangeman following a Johnson shot that went off the crossbar and trickled in front of the Edmonds Woodway senior lying in wait in front of the crease.

The win came after Division I Shorecrest’s 10-9 lead at the half was whittled away by Meadowdale, a Division II squad, first with a five-goal third giving the Mavs a 14-13 lead after three. The Highlanders came back with five in the fourth before Hardwick saved the night, giving Meadowdale a chance in the extra period.

Edmonds-Woodway junior Thomas Kobuke led the Meadowdale squad with seven goals and three assists for a season-high 10 points. Meadowdale freshman Jarrid Johnson had four goals, two assists and 12 ground balls, while his brother Damon Johnson had three goals. Hardwick finished with a pair.

Shorecrest’s Ian Prieve led all scorers with nine goals.
