Many of you may be aware that over the past two weeks, news has broken about the attempt to form a players union for major junior hockey players. The emergence of CHLPA created quite the storm, both with its stated goals and with its poorly executed rollout. Several other sources detail and analyze what’s happened, including a good breakdown by Chris Peters, several articles at Buzzing The Net (this is the first of many posts), and interesting thoughts via Gregg Drinnan (scroll down to Aug. 21 and 22, particularly the 21st for the complications in Washington state).
One thing that seems to be missing in all this is comment from any player involved in the process. Most of the players apparently never heard of the CHLPA before it became public. However, former Silvertips defenseman Brennan Yadlowski is one of those who was involved. His involvement was minimal, but at least he was someone who knew what was going on, and it was good to get the perspective of a player who was at least present on the ground level.
